Caution
Alpha Arbutin, also known as hydroquinone β-D-glucopyranoside is a skin-lightening agent which is a naturally occurring derivative of hydroquinone. It is present in plants like blueberry, cranberry, and bearberry. Useful for issues like hyperpigmentation and spots caused by breakouts or sun damage, this is a very popular ingredient in skincare. It protects from pigmentation caused by UV rays by blocking the activity of tyrosinase, which is activated every time the skin comes into contact with sunlight. The white crystalline powder serves the same purpose as hydroquinone, but with reduced irritation and melano cytotoxicity. Since it is water soluble, it is absorbed by the skin very easily.
