Caution
Polysorbate-20 (Tween-20) is an additive used in skincare and cosmetic formulations to improve the texture, feel, and scent of the product. It is mainly used as a surfactant, emulsifier, and fragrance ingredient. It exists in the form of a clear to a light yellow viscous liquid. Polysorbate 20 enhances the spreadability of liquids, and also helps both essential oils and fragrance oils to attach to various types of cosmetic bases, including liquid, cream, and gel bases, and thereby prevents the oils and bases from separating.
It is produced by the reaction among sorbitol, lauric acid, and ethylene oxide.
