Application

Hydroquinone may be used in serums for dark spot treatment, skin brightening creams, facial and skin cleansers, facial moisturisers, hair conditioners, and finger nail coating products. Although effective alone, Hydroquinone is often combined with other agents such as tretinoin, glycolic acid, kojic acid, and azelaic acid.

Usage Rate

Caution

Hydroquinone is used in skincare products meant to brighten skin or to treat different forms of dark patches on the skin, like hyperpigmentation due to acne scars, age spots and melasma. It may also be used for inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is seen as a result of an injury such as a burn or inflammatory acne.
This skin-lightening agent works by decreasing the production of melanin by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme needed for melanin production. When used consistently, the skin usually appears lighter within about 4 weeks.

This topical ingredient is white, odorless and in a powder form. It is moderately soluble in water and highly soluble in alcohol.
